SITTI NAVARRO WOWS CAGAYAN DE ORO
By Mark D. Francisco
IT was a jampacked Limketkai Atrium Saturday night after Filipina bossa nova sensation Sitti Navarro rocked the house.
Belting out more than a dozen original tracks squeezed from her four albums released prolifically in three years’ time from 2005 to date, Sitti mesmerized the crowd as she slowly inched her way from the stage to the cheering audience below and jammed and danced lightly with them to the jazzy tune of bossa nova music.
But of course, the crowd was satisfied.
For Sitti is the only certified bossa nova singer in the country.
“We brought Sitti here because we want to introduce a new musical genre in the city,” producer Dan Michelle Sabio quipped during a news conference earlier prior to the concert.
It was the first full-length concert by Sitti in Cagayan de Oro. Her previous appearance here was a mere 15-minute mall show.
“Personally, I like Cagayan de Oro not just because of the famed whitewater rafting here but people here are appreciative of jazz and bossa nova music,” the 23-year-old slender singer said.
In fact, Sitti said she could liken the folks here in Cagayan de Oro to those in Cebu, Baguio and Bacolod who like classy music.
“Those are the only places in the country that I’m looking forward belting out more jazz-inclined tracks because in other cities, the people are more oriented in pop music so I also have to adjust my lineup of songs on stage,” she said.
Not satisfied with reining in Sitti, producer Sabio also presented to the mostly teenage and yuppie crowd local lounge band Cremasteric as front act and as appetizer, the candidates of Miss Teen Philippines 2008 Northern Mindanao.
That said the audience of more than a thousand capped the evening, feeling very contented indeed.
