Sitti boosts Bossa Nova

If there is one artist solely responsible for the resurgence of interest in Bossa Nova in The Philippines, it would be Sitti. Her 2006 multi-platinum smash Café Bossa – which many mistook for an album by a foreign artist – set the standard for the Bossa Nova albums and artists that followed.

This year has been particularly busy for Sitti. She just returned from a successful U.S. tour and released a Christmas album. On Nov. 29, local music’s Bossa Nova diva celebrates her birthday and success in the music scene with First, a solo concert at the Captain’s Bar of the Mandarin Oriental Manila.

The telecast show is a first for Sitti. It will be her first time to stage a concert on her actual birthday. First will also trace Sitti’s roots through songs – how she started, her rise to success and future plans.

The shows title is fitting. Sitti has the distinction of being the first female singer in The Philippines to make it big by singing Bossa Nova.

First is one concert that Bossa Nova lovers or music lovers in general shouldn’t miss. Sitti is excited about the show.
“Every birthday is special, but this one is more special than the others because I’m not just celebrating another year older,” she says.

“I’m celebrating all the good things that have come my way since I started singing professionally.”

Sitti will be joined by special guests Christian Bautista, fresh from the success of his first major theatrical role as Tony in West Side Story, and fast-rising R&B singer Myrus. Musical direction is by Naldy Rodriguez.
