Something New and Fresh from Sitti

By Walden Sadiri

Everything is going Sitti’s way as the Yuletide Season approaches — from signing up with a new management team in Backroom, Inc., to her album gaining Platinum status and now a Christmas album which will surely delight her fans.

Her album “Ngayong Pasko,” which is also the title of her carrier single, is an original composition by Lambert Reyes. For a change, her album is not straight Bossanova. Some of the Christmas songs included are jazz pieces with upbeat arrangements which she is certain her listeners would enjoy.

“Ibang-iba lang ang arrangements sa Christmas album na ito,” she quipped. “It’s something new for me and something new for the listeners… it is a semi-departure from straight Bossa.”

semi-departure from Bossanova was a mutual decision for her and her label Warner Music Philippines because they want to offer her fans something new and fresh.

She added that most of the songs selected for her album were in her last Christmas concert’s repertoire. These were “Santa Baby,” “All I Want for Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Someday at Christmas,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” “Grown-up Christmas List,” “The Christmas Song,” “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Boogie Woogie Santa Claus.” A special bonus in her album is a duet with Christian Bautista in the track “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” and the classic Christmas carol “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” was given a new flavor as she sang it with the Las Piñas Boys Choir.

Sitti said she grew-up listening and singing the said songs in her album that it’s an honor for her to render her own interpretation of the carols in a Christmas album.

What prompted her to come out with a Christmas album?

“Well, actually in all honesty, we wanted to come out with an output this year but given the time constraint yung Christmas album ang pwede naming unahin muna kasi the songs are there na and it’s a matter of selection lang. December is just around the corner,” she said.

Sitti has her hands full preparing for her upcoming birthday concert on November 29 at the Captain’s Bar at the Mandarin Hotel.

“The recordings cannot really capture what I can offer. What I can do is invite you in a live performance and you can see for yourself if I am just a Bossanova singer or I can do more,” remarked Sitti.

Her fans would also get to know more about the artist in her birthday show because it is divided in three segments.

“Ito naman iba siya kasi it is divided into three parts. There’s my past as a lounge singer when I started singing standards and jazz. There’s the present with me singing bossanova and a surprise future,” she said.

Turning 24 years old on the day of her concert, her birthday wish is simple — for her family to be more abundant and her family’s welfare. She also said that she couldn’t ask for anything more since she’s been blessed with a very good career. She is actually excited with her upcoming album because she is has a long time to prepare for it.

“Ngayong Pasko ako ay masaya… hindi pa ako mag-aasawa marami pa akong gagawin. It’s complicated nga paano pa ako mag-aasawa,” she giggled. “My minimum age to marry is 28 years old.”

Sitti who confessed to being always nice has only one gift she would like Santa Clus to reward her with come Christmas eve — a brand new yellow VW Beetle!
