Sitti, Juris together in pre-Valentine show

MANILA, Philippines – Bossa Nova Queen Sitti Navarro and Queen of Acoustic Pop Juris Fernandez are set to hold their first show together.

Dubbed “With SITTI, love enJURIS,” the show will be held on February 10 at Metro Bar in Quezon City at 9 p.m.

“Excited kami [kasi] it’s our first time together na kaming dalawa lang,” Sitti said.

“Siguro, I am most excited doon sa part na magkasama kaming dalawang magpe-perform,” Juris said.

Juris bared that she will perform “I Don’t Want To Fall,” a single from her first solo album under Star Records.

As a pre-Valentine show, the 2 are expected to perform their signature songs.

Born Sitti Katrina Navarro Baiddin, Sitti is known for her soothing voice, and her album, “Cafe Bossa,” has become a huge hit. Juris, meanwhile, is the former member of M.Y.M.P.

Both Sitti and Juris are part of “ASAP Sessionistas.”

    Sitti: Beyond bossa nova

SITTI is the country’s “Bossa Nova Diva”; she’s that and more. This she proves in a special show, “First,” on her birthday at the Mandarin Oriental this November 29.

Three years after hitting it big with “Para sa Akin” in the music business, with successful concerts and awards, Sitti is feeling very blessed.

“Nag-uumapaw ang blessings sa akin,” she says. So “First” is a way of thanking the people who have supported her. Her fans, those active in the worldwide web who dub themselves “Sittizens,” have always been all-out in supporting her and her music. In fact, their generosity has spilled over to other OPM artists whom they support and even to Sitti’s outreach projects. For a couple of years, they have been involved in giving help to the less-fortunate. In fact, one of her most memorable birthdays was two years ago. It was held at Boys Town. Her non-showbiz boyfriend arranged the surprise, with the kids performing “Para sa Akin” for the teary-eyed celebrant.

Sitti: Her past, present & future

    By Bot Glorioso

She either takes a break from the usual night ’til dawn singing gigs or goes out to cheer up less-fortunate kids in a charity institutions as a way of celebrating her birthday. But as Sitti turns 24 on Nov. 29, she is setting aside whatever plans she has for her special day with family and close friends to perform in First at the Captain’s Bar of Mandarin Oriental. The concert starts 9 p.m.

“Since it is my first time to do a show that falls on my birthday, we have come up with a concept which will make everyone in the audience know me more by dividing the show into three parts — the past, present and future,” Sitti says.

The past will trace Sitti’s roots prior to hitting the right tune of success through bossa nova. Not everyone knows Sitti started as a lounge singer at 17, belting out standards and jazz hits of Kevyn Lettau and Patti Austin in front of Manila Peninsula and Hyatt’s Calesa Bar music-loving crowd. The stints served as good breather for Sitti, who was then a Business Economics student at UP.
